ationic photocurable systems show important advantages with respect to the use of the radical process. The use of bio-renewable monomers will make the cationic process greener. We have reported the synthesis of a series of vinyl ether ester oligomers using enzyme catalysis under solvent-free conditions. We have reported the synthesis of epoxy functionalized bio-renewable monomers as well, that can be applied in cationic photopolymerization. The cationic UV-curing process was efficient in obtaining crosslinked coatings with a wide range of thermo-mechanical properties. The final properties were analyzed based on the monomer chemical structure. Glass or carbon fibers epoxy composites was achieved for the very first time. We have demonstrated that the crosslinking reaction proceeds via a radical-induced cationic frontal polymerization (RICFP), where the UV-surface activation of cationic ring-opening polymerization is able to promote the heat front that will activate a thermal initiator in the deeper layers. Because of the very high velocity of the reaction, we could obtain quickly epoxy composites maintaining the good thermo-mechanical properties. By this way, thicker cationic photocured materials can be achieved.

Big thanks to my PhD students; they are starting to work again in the lab with restrictions and respecting the physical distance. Hope to meet my colleagues again soon, at Politecnico di Torino and abroad, and building up new projects, new networks, and having new scientific discussions.

Congratulation to my students Alessandro Albiani, Congratulation to my students Alessandro Albiani, Matteo Bergoglio, Matteo Bertola, Antonella Cattari and Livia Persico for bachelor graduation in Materials Science at Politecnico di Torino. Today, they have presented in telecon their thesis on polymers from renewable resources, polymeric blends, bio-epoxy resins, bio-packaging and fillers in polymeric matrixes. A special day for you in this strange period. I'm proud of you! ❤️ https://www.photopolymer.it/bachelor-students-graduation/

I gave my seminar at @monash_uni on photopolymeriz I gave my seminar at @monash_uni on photopolymerization as a powerful tool for materials synthesis. I received enormous appreciation for our research and I'm very happy for that. But, I want to thank all the people who worked with me in these years; we have shared everything, frustration and joy, many coffees and hard work. Thanks for everything you have done and continues to do. ❤
